Democratic Party leader Sali Berisha, presenting coalition candidates in Berat, pledged education and healthcare reforms if his coalition wins the May 11 elections.
Berisha promised a €1,500 teacher salary and increased education funding, citing a decline in Albania’s education quality according to OECD reports.
“Without a magnificent education, there is no magnificent Albania,” Berisha stated.
He also pledged to align Albania’s reimbursed drug list with Italy’s and double the healthcare budget.
“A prime minister who declares crimes against humanity have occurred in the Oncology Hospital and continues as if nothing happened is responsible for those crimes,” Berisha said, promising doubled salaries for doctors and nurses.
He highlighted Albania’s shortage of medical professionals compared to EU averages.
“Doubling the salaries and pensions of doctors and nurses is the condition of all conditions for a dignified healthcare service for Albanian citizens,” he emphasized.
