Acting Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti has begun consultations with leaders of minority parties in Kosovo to form a new government, a day after the date for the Kosovo Assembly’s constitutive session was set for April 15.
Kurti met with Deputy Prime Minister for Minorities and Human Rights and chairwoman of the New Democratic Party (NDS), Emilija Rexhepi, and Minister for Communities and Returns and chairman of the Party for Freedom, Justice and Survival, Nenad Raši?.
According to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office, both Rexhepi and Raši? confirmed their support for a new government mandate led by the Vetëvendosje Movement.
Both the NDS, which represents the Bosnian community, and the Party for Freedom, Justice and Survival, representing the Serbian community, each hold one seat in the Kosovo Assembly.
President Vjosa Osmani has scheduled the constitutive session of the Kosovo Assembly for April 15. It remains to be seen whether a new government will be formed at the same session.
The Vetëvendosje Movement won 48 seats in the February 9, 2025, general elections. A simple majority of 61 votes out of 120 deputies is required to form a new government. The Vetëvendosje Movement has expressed confidence that it has secured the necessary numbers for government formation.
