PM says Albania’s EU membership depends on May election victory
Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama has pledged that Albania will complete EU accession talks by 2027, paving the way for full membership. However, he insists this goal can only be achieved if his party secures another term in the May 11 elections.
Responding to questions on social media, Rama outlined the benefits of EU membership, including freedom of movement, equal healthcare rights, and lower education costs for students.
“An EU passport makes us first-class citizens. No more visa queues, no limits on how long we stay, work, or study in Europe,” Rama said.
He stressed that Albania’s European future depends on political stability and vowed that his government would waste no time in completing negotiations if re-elected.
“If we win on May 11, we won’t waste a minute. By 2027, Albania will be a full EU member,” Rama declared.
Albania began formal EU accession talks in 2022, but progress depends on meeting key reforms in rule of law, governance, and economic policies.
