Democratic Party leader Sali Berisha appeared before SPAK on Monday as part of his corruption and abuse of office case, fulfilling his legal obligation to report twice a month. A small group of supporters greeted him outside as he arrived to answer questions regarding the privatization of the “Partizani” sports complex, a deal that benefited his son-in-law Jamarbër Malltezi.
After leaving the prosecution’s office, Berisha accused SPAK chief Altin Dumani of politically motivated actions, calling the agency’s handling of electoral crimes unconstitutional and anti-democratic. His criticism of SPAK comes as the institution continues to receive strong backing from Albania’s international partners.
Two days earlier, Berisha had urged young people to stage a massive protest against the government’s temporary ban on TikTok, but the demonstration drew only around 200 participants, marking one of PD’s weakest turnouts. The lack of support has deepened concerns within the opposition as the public increasingly demands new leadership figures untainted by corruption allegations.
