Brussels has hit out at fresh US tariffs on Mexican and Canadian imports, warning they could wreak havoc on global trade.
A European Commission spokesperson slammed the move, calling it a reckless gamble that could shake supply chains, choke investment, and send economic jitters across the Atlantic.
“This isn’t just about North America – it’s a blow to integrated markets worldwide,” the spokesperson said. “At a time when international cooperation is vital, this fuels uncertainty we don’t need.”
The EU is urging Washington to rethink its stance, warning against protectionist policies that could backfire. “We stand firmly against barriers that harm open and fair trade,” the Commission added.
With trade tensions rising, the stakes are high. If the US doubles down, expect a fresh round of economic turbulence – and Brussels isn’t ruling out a fightback.
