PM Edi Rama has blasted a court decision to hit 24 university staff with security measures, calling it rushed and a blow to Albania’s reputation.
The PM warned the move could harm ties with Vienna’s BOKU University, just as the two institutions were building a key partnership.
“This isn’t about guilt or innocence,” he said. “But 24 people? That’s overkill! What will our Austrian partners think?”
Rama said justice must take its course but without crippling the university.
The Special Court ordered five staffers jailed, ten placed under house arrest, and nine put on court supervision over claims of tender fraud and abuse of office.
Opponents accused Rama of interfering, but he hit back, saying his party is the only real defender of judicial reform in Albania.
