Former Niš mayor Dragana Sotirovski has been arrested at the Preševo border crossing as part of Serbia’s anti-corruption campaign.
Authorities confirmed that police detained four others alongside her. The group is suspected of abusing power to benefit companies illegally between 2022 and 2024.
The Special Department for Fighting Corruption at the Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office in Niš reported ongoing raids across multiple locations. Nationwide, dozens have been arrested for corruption and misconduct, the Interior Ministry said. Investigations are still in progress.
Meanwhile, protests and roadblocks continue in several Serbian cities. Demonstrators are demanding justice after a deadly roof collapse at Novi Sad’s railway station last year, which killed 15 people.
