
A strong 5.2-magnitude earthquake hit Croatia, shaking the region and sending locals fleeing their homes. The quake, recorded by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), struck 26 kilometers from Gospi?, 119 kilometers from Split, and just 14 kilometers from Posedarje at a depth of 10 kilometers.
The tremors were felt strongly in areas around Zadar, Posedarje, and parts of Lika, with residents reporting the shaking was so intense that they rushed outside for safety. One local from Šibenik said, “It was shaking hard here too!”
The earthquake also rattled nearby Bosnia and Herzegovina, particularly in Biha?, Bosanska Krupa, Prijedor, and Banja Luka. Some even felt the tremors in Zenica, Mostar, and Sarajevo.
Just minutes after the initial quake, a second, weaker tremor measuring 2.5 on the Richter scale struck 87 kilometers from Split, at a depth of 15 kilometers.
