Albania has made a major leap in the fight against corruption, according to Transparency International’s 2024 report. The country saw a 5-point jump in its Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI), reaching 42 out of 100 points.
The report credits the Special Prosecutor’s Office for its crackdown on top political figures. It highlights convictions of former ministers, MPs, and mayors, a process that’s helped rebuild public trust in the justice system.
Kosovo also made strides, improving by 3 points to 44. But the global picture remains grim, with two-thirds of countries still struggling with corruption.
Transparency International urges urgent action, warning that corruption is undermining efforts to protect the climate as global temperatures rise and democracy falters.
