Kosovo is ready for its first scheduled parliamentary election since 2008, as voters head to the polls on February 9, 2025, to choose the next government after a series of snap elections in recent years.
Kosovo is gearing up for its first scheduled election since independence in 2008, set for February 9, 2025. The campaign, which began on January 11, has run smoothly for the most part, though some political leaders have been accused of using fiery rhetoric.
A total of 28 political parties, including groups from Kosovo’s Albanian, Serbian, Turkish, and other minority communities, will be competing for the 120 parliamentary seats. The ruling Vetëvendosje Movement, led by Prime Minister Albin Kurti, is promising billions for the economy and free public transport, while the Democratic Party of Kosovo is aiming for a 50% wage and pension boost.
For the first time, voters can pick up to 10 candidates for parliament—five more than before. With over 2 million voters expected, the election will be monitored by more than 100 EU observers to ensure it’s fair.
