Donald Trump has suggested the US take control of Gaza and move its Palestinian residents elsewhere, a proposal swiftly rejected by Egypt and Jordan.
Speaking at the White House alongside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Trump outlined a plan to “flatten” Gaza and rebuild it into what he called the “Riviera of the Middle East.”
“The US will take control, clear it out, and redevelop it. We’ll remove bombs, demolish ruins, and create jobs—unlimited jobs,” he said.
When asked under what authority the US could take over, Trump dodged the question, saying he saw a “long-term ownership position.” He also didn’t rule out sending American troops to secure the territory.
“If needed, we’ll take it and develop it,” he added.
His remarks, including a call for Gaza’s residents to leave permanently, sparked outrage. Egypt and Jordan dismissed the idea outright, while regional leaders warned it would escalate tensions.
