Albania’s Parliament approved a wide range of reforms today after a 10-hour session, including a spring bonus for pensioners, a new digital ID card, and extended deadlines for strategic investors. These measures aim to boost the economy, enhance security, and modernize public services.
TIRANA, JAN 31 –In a marathon session lasting more than 10 hours, Albania’s Parliament approved a series of significant reforms today. Pensioners will receive a spring bonus next month, thanks to changes to government regulations aimed at providing financial relief.
The Assembly also extended the deadline for applications under the Strategic Investor status, giving businesses until December 2026 to apply for benefits.
A new digital ID card was also greenlit, with Interior Minister Ervin Hoxha announcing it will be crucial in the fight against organized crime and cyber fraud.
In tourism, a tax break was approved for businesses in the sector, valid until 2026, while a key agreement with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development was ratified to finance the Tirana-Durrës-Rinas railway project.
The parliament also approved changes to Albania’s waste management laws, aligning the country’s legislation with EU standards. In a final vote, all reforms were passed with strong support.
