Farmers in Albania have a new chance to secure a pension by paying 38,400 leks per year into a government insurance scheme. The catch? Late payments for contributions before 2025 will incur penalties.
Riza Ashimi, a benefits specialist at the Social Insurance Directorate in Korçë, explained: “Anyone making late payments for years before 2025 will be charged extra for every day they delay.”
From 2025 onwards, farmers will also need to pay for health insurance, in addition to their social security contributions. This applies to both rural and urban areas across the country.
Ashimi noted there has been a high level of interest from farmers eager to ensure their future and secure pension benefits through the scheme.
