Albania’s Prime Minister Edi Rama has landed a major energy deal while in Abu Dhabi. A new trilateral agreement with Italy and the UAE will boost Albania’s solar energy and connect the country to Italy via an underwater cable.
Rama said the deal is a big step toward energy independence, aiming to cut reliance on imports and make Albania an energy exporter to the European Union. “Together with Italy’s PM Giorgia Meloni and UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed, we’re finalizing this deal to strengthen Albania’s energy future,” Rama said.
Albania is already a regional leader in solar energy, with sun-powered production now at nearly 10% of its total energy output. “Our goal is 30% by the end of our fourth term,” he added.
In another win for Albanians, starting February 1, the country will be the first in Europe to cut energy prices by 10.5%. Rama promised this would save citizens €31 million a year on their electricity bills.
The deal, along with the price cuts, marks a major victory for Albania’s energy sector and its people.
