Fast payments are coming to Albania, Bosnia, Kosovo, and more.
Italy’s central bank has signed a deal with Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, North Macedonia, and Montenegro to bring fast, real-time payments to the Balkans. The new system will allow people to send money across borders in local currencies – instantly.
The deal will connect these countries to Europe’s TIPS payment system, already used in the Eurozone. Italy will run the platform on behalf of the European Central Bank.
The new system will make payments quicker and easier for businesses and customers in the region. North Macedonia can join later if it wants.
More features will be added as the system grows, making the Balkans part of Europe’s digital payment future.
