Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama has accused opposition leaders of spreading lies after prosecutors cleared his brother, Olsi Rama, of drug trafficking allegations.
The Democratic Party had claimed Olsi Rama was linked to a cocaine lab discovered in Xibraka.. However, SPAK, Albania’s anti-corruption body, found no evidence to support the accusations.
“This was a political smear campaign aimed at me,” said Rama, accusing the opposition of manipulating documents to score political points.
Gazment Bardhi, a senior Democratic Party figure, had pushed the claims, but SPAK concluded they were unsubstantiated.
The investigation, closely watched by the EU and U.S., ended after nearly a year of political drama. Rama dismissed the allegations as part of a broader effort to discredit his government.
The opposition has yet to comment on the decision.
