Flu and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) are currently the most common illnesses seen in patients across Albania. Over 11,000 cases have been reported in the first week of January, although this is a drop from the higher numbers at the end of December.
According to the Institute of Public Health (ISHP), flu, COVID-19, and RSV have all been confirmed, but there are no signs of metapneumovirus, which has caused alarm in China.
Eugena Tomini, Director of ISHP, reassured the public, stating: “We’ve seen no suspected cases of metapneumovirus so far.”
While there’s no need for panic, health officials continue to stress the importance of flu vaccinations, which remain the best defense for vulnerable groups against severe illness and death.
Public health experts also advise people with symptoms to stay home and avoid public spaces to limit the spread of the virus.
