Albania is preparing to allow its citizens living abroad to vote in the 2025 parliamentary elections. This marks a big change in the country’s electoral process.
The Central Election Commission (CEC) is finalising plans for overseas voting in the May 11, 2025 elections.
Ilirjan Celibashi, Albania’s State Election Commissioner, shared updates during a recent session in Parliament. “Everything is on track according to the Electoral Code,” he said.
Celibashi said that the CEC has approved key documents, including rules for registering voters abroad and ways to check voter addresses. The CEC is also running an information campaign to educate voters overseas about how to take part.
Registration for overseas voters will open on January 11, 2025. This means Albanian citizens living abroad will have the chance to vote in the next elections.
The CEC has engaged with political parties and key civil society organizations to address concerns and ensure a smooth process. With these efforts in place, Albania is preparing to allow its diaspora to vote for the first time in the 2025 elections.
