Albania’s Prime Minister, Edi Rama, made it clear that there is no time to lose in the EU integration process. Speaking at a high-level meeting with foreign ambassadors, Rama highlighted the importance of moving forward with the country’s governance, rule of law, and anti-corruption reforms.
“The first half of this year was marked by doubts and skepticism. But now, we are entering a crucial phase in our negotiations with the EU,” Rama said, pointing to the completion of a key document that outlines Albania’s reform progress. He also expressed frustration over the lack of understanding surrounding the negotiations, emphasizing that Albania cannot afford to waste time on such issues.
Rama also addressed the ongoing opposition boycott of the Anti-Corruption Commission, making it clear that Albania’s path to the EU cannot be held back by political disagreements. “We won’t wait for anyone,” he said. “We’re moving forward with or without them.”
The Prime Minister reinforced that Albania’s EU aspirations are at the heart of the government’s reform efforts, with justice system changes, anti-corruption measures, and the fight against organized crime among the top priorities. He also noted that the Socialist Party has been a key driver in these reforms.
Silvio Gonzato, the Ambassador of the EU Delegation to Albania, added that Albania’s integration into the EU remains a top priority for the Union, signaling continued European support.
