Albania’s Special Chief Prosecutor, Altin Dumani, has been named an anti-corruption champion by the US State Department.
Dumani, who heads the Special Anti-Corruption Structure (SPAK), received the honour on International Anti-Corruption Day during a ceremony hosted by US Secretary of State Antony Blinken in Washington.
“Today, SPAK is the most trusted public institution in Albania,” Blinken said. He commended Dumani’s leadership in prosecuting high-ranking officials and organised crime figures under reforms introduced in 2016.
Dumani, who has led SPAK since December 2022, was one of 10 global anti-corruption champions recognised by the United States this year.
A State Department spokesperson highlighted the impact of corruption on governance and development, calling transparency and accountability essential to US foreign policy and national security.
SPAK, backed by the US, remains a key player in Albania’s battle against corruption and organised crime.
