Kosovo’s Prime Minister, Albin Kurti, has accused Serbia of copying Russia for a recent terrorist attack on the Ibër-Lepenc canal in Zubin Potok. Kurti said the attack, which occurred on November 29, shares similarities with Russia’s airstrikes on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, aimed at plunging millions into darkness as winter approached.
“One day before the attack in Zubin Potok, Russian forces targeted Ukraine’s critical energy infrastructure, leaving around 1 million households without power,” Kurti said during a press conference. He called the attack an effort to undermine living conditions and threaten citizens’ safety.
Kurti also linked the assault to a wider pattern of aggression, pointing to a recent attack on a police station in Zveçan and Russia’s ongoing violence in Ukraine. He added that Kosovo Police found Russian military emblems during post-attack inspections, suggesting Russian involvement.
The Prime Minister accused Serbia of copying Russian tactics to destabilize Kosovo and the region but stressed Kosovo’s commitment to Western democratic values. Kurti also condemned Serbia’s support for Milan Radoi?i?, who is alleged to have organized a previous attack in Kosovo, saying his freedom only encourages more violence.
The explosion in Zubin Potok, which damaged the critical canal infrastructure, was condemned by both the EU and EU. Kosovo’s Minister of Economy, Artane Rizvanolli, confirmed that water supplies have now returned to normal in most affected areas.
