An explosion at the Ibër-Lepenc canal in northern Kosovo has caused major disruption, triggering fears of further escalation. Kosovo authorities arrested eight suspects and seized explosives after the blast on Friday evening, which heavily damaged the canal. Kosovo has accused Serbia of carrying out a “terrorist” attack on its infrastructure, though Serbia denies any involvement.
Security expert Ivana Stradner warned the explosion could be part of a wider strategy by Serbian President Aleksandar Vu?i? to deflect attention from internal problems.
“Vucic is facing major unrest in Serbia, and tensions in Kosovo could escalate,” Stradner said. “This is a typical move to distract from domestic issues.”
Stradner also suggested Vucic could declare a state of emergency, a tactic the West is already preparing for. “They know his game,” she added.
The international community condemned the explosion, with the European Union calling it a “terrorist” attack and a direct threat to Kosovo’s infrastructure.
As Kosovo and Serbia continue to clash, fears grow that the fragile peace in the Balkans could be at risk.
