Marta Kos, the new European Commissioner for Enlargement, is hopeful that North Macedonia will soon amend its constitution to move forward with its EU membership bid.
Speaking to the media after the European Commission’s new lineup was approved, Kos said the constitutional change is crucial for speeding up the process. “It’s something we are counting on. Nothing less, nothing more. I believe it’s possible, and after that, we can really accelerate the process,” she said.
Kos was also asked about the possibility of further delays in the EU integration process. She acknowledged the concerns but made it clear she couldn’t offer any guarantees.
When it comes to resolving the ongoing dispute with Bulgaria, Kos emphasized the need for continued discussions. “It should be talked about as much as possible,” she added.
Kos’s remarks come as the EU continues to push for reforms in North Macedonia, a key part of the broader enlargement agenda.
