Serbian President Aleksandar Vu?i? has issued a stark warning as tensions in Europe continue to rise, expressing deep concern over the growing risk of nuclear conflict. “From 10 steps to disaster, we have already crossed nine. Any next step leads us to a nuclear conflict,” Vu?i? said, highlighting the gravity of the situation as geopolitical pressures mount.
His comments come amid mounting fears over Russia’s military actions and their potential to destabilize the region. Vu?i? revealed that Serbia is ill-prepared for a nuclear emergency, with shelter capacity for only 257,000 people. To address this, he called for immediate talks with local businesses to find additional shelter space for up to 1.5 million people.
Vu?i? also pointed out that if Russian President Vladimir Putin feels cornered, he might resort to using nuclear weapons. This sentiment echoes broader anxieties in Eastern Europe, as NATO countries brace for the possibility of further escalation in the Ukraine conflict.
In response to these growing concerns, Vu?i? stressed the need for Serbia to improve its civil defense measures and ensure its citizens are informed and ready. The government is reportedly taking steps to strengthen emergency preparedness and response efforts.
