Albania’s excise revenue has jumped in 2024, reaching 48 billion leks ($415 million) during the first ten months of the year – an increase of 4.5 billion leks (45 million euros) compared to last year. This growth is mainly driven by higher fuel imports, which accounted for an extra 2.4 billion leks in revenue. Domestic fuel consumption also saw a significant rise, with an additional 31,608 tons used compared to the same period in 2023.
Fuel consumption in the country has hit an all-time high, with locals and foreign tourists together using 568.8 thousand tons of fuel this year, the highest level in at least eight years. The boom in tourism is a major factor, with many visitors driving their own cars or renting vehicles to explore Albania’s attractions.
With tourism continuing to thrive, fuel consumption is expected to remain high through the rest of the year.
