Albania’s Interior Minister, Ervin Hoxha, introduced 12 new regional police directors today as part of the country’s ongoing police reform efforts. This marks the first time Albania has used a competitive selection process to appoint these key positions, with 43 candidates competing for the roles.
During the ceremony, Hoxha praised the new directors as a fresh generation of officers with experience and integrity. “These officers have built their careers from the ground up, and today, they are entrusted with leading the police forces in 12 of Albania’s regional directorates,” Hoxha said.
A key focus of the appointments is the modernization of Albania’s police services. Hoxha emphasized the need to upgrade the police force’s technology to meet future challenges. “The State Police must be equipped with the latest digital systems and intelligence tools. It is essential that government funds allocated for this purpose are used effectively, without delays or waste,” he stressed.
The new police chiefs will be tasked with advancing key initiatives in crime prevention, traffic management, and territorial security across Albania. Hoxha also called for the police to take a strong stance on internal reform, urging the new directors to combat corruption and promote transparency within the force.
In his closing remarks, Hoxha encouraged the new leaders to engage directly with the public, addressing citizens’ concerns and media questions in a fair and transparent manner.
