November 1, 2024 — The Special Prosecutor’s Office of Kosovo has charged two individuals with war crimes against civilians committed during the 1998-1999 conflict. The suspects, identified by the initials SS and MS, are accused of murder, physical and mental abuse, and looting of civilian property.
The prosecutor’s office has not provided further details on the case. The charges are part of ongoing efforts to address the war’s legacy, which left over 10,000 dead and more than 5,000 missing.
The conflict ended following NATO intervention, which aimed to stop violence by Serbian forces. Kosovo declared independence in February 2008 with support from the United States and key Western countries, though this move is still contested by Serbia, backed by Russia. (Tir-Fax)
