Oct 29, 2024 – The Minister of Economy, Culture, and Innovation, Blendi Gonxhja, recently shared a delightful video showcasing two German tourists exploring the wonders of Albania this late October. Their journey brought them to the picturesque Church of St. Nicholas in Voskopojë, a place where history and architectural beauty come alive.
As they wandered through this serene site, the tourists were enchanted by Albania’s vibrant cultural heritage. They described their experience as extraordinary and expressed their gratitude for being in Albania, where they plan to stay for an exciting 37 days.
Nestled in the heart of Voskopojë, the Church of St. Nicholas stands proudly as a Cultural Monument of Architecture, built around 1721. This stunning Orthodox church is celebrated for its post-Byzantine design and captivating interior artwork. The decoration began in 1726 under the talented David Selenica, a master from the 18th century whose work reflects the cherished traditions of the Macedonian art school.
The Church of St. Nicholas is not just a beautiful structure; it represents a vital chapter in Voskopojë’s rich history. Today, many of its original icons are housed in the National Museum of Medieval Art in Korçë, allowing visitors to appreciate the area’s cultural legacy even further.
With each visit, Voskopojë continues to share its stories and charm, inviting travelers to connect with its remarkable heritage.
