Oct 26, 2024 – The Democratic Party of Albania announced plans for a nationwide protest on October 29, aiming to mobilize citizens against perceived state capture by organized crime and corruption.
Gazment Bardhi, the leader of the party’s parliamentary group, stated that the protest will begin at 5:00 PM and occur on key thoroughfares across the country. Demonstrators are expected to gather along the route from Casa Italia to Sheshi Shqiponja, as well as at major roundabouts in Milot, Shkozet, Bradashesh, Rrogozhina, and Levan.
Bardhi emphasized the need for unity among citizens to ensure free and fair elections, free from the influence of illicit funds and criminal organizations. “Let us all come together to put an end to the capture of the state,” he posted on social media.
The protest highlights ongoing political tensions in Albania, where allegations of corruption have fueled public dissatisfaction. As the main opposition party, the Democratic Party is seeking to galvanize support ahead of future elections, framing itself as a defender of electoral integrity in a country facing significant governance challenges.
