Bosnia and Herzegovina’s Presidency Chairman, Denis Beqirovi?, met with Albanian President Bajram Begaj today in Sarajevo to discuss enhancing bilateral relations. Accompanied by members Zheljko Komši? and Zheljka Cvijanovi?, the leaders focused on opening embassies in both capitals, fostering regional cooperation, and strengthening economic ties in pursuit of European Union membership.
Beqirovi? expressed gratitude to Albania for its ongoing support, particularly during recent floods in Bosnia and Herzegovina and in backing the genocide resolution concerning Srebrenica. “This visit signifies a commitment to our partnership; Albania is a strategic ally and friend to Bosnia and Herzegovina,” Beqirovi? stated.
A direct flight between Sarajevo and Tirana was also proposed, aimed at facilitating business travel and tourism, which the leaders believe will enhance connections between the two nations. Beqirovi? underscored the need for collaboration with Montenegro to establish modern transport links.
Cvijanovi? highlighted opportunities for cooperation among universities, economic chambers, and tourism organizations, noting the region’s collective aspiration for EU membership, with 2030 identified as a potential target year.
Komši? acknowledged the solid political relations between the two countries but called for further development of economic ties. He expressed optimism about Albania’s progress toward EU membership, viewing it as beneficial for Bosnia and Herzegovina and its neighbors.
In his remarks, President Begaj noted the long-standing friendship between Albania and Bosnia and Herzegovina, emphasizing the presence of the Bosniak community in Albania and the well-integrated Albanian community in BiH. He reaffirmed Albania’s commitment to supporting BiH’s sovereignty and its Euro-Atlantic goals, calling for the establishment of direct flights and improvements in regional infrastructure.
“As we face security challenges in the Western Balkans, Albania will continue to contribute to regional peace and stability,” Begaj said.
