UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy’s visit to Pristina saw Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani declare the UK’s assistance as “historic,” and propose a strategic cooperation agreement, according to reports.
President Osmani emphasized the strong relationship between Kosovo and the UK, built on shared values of democracy, freedom, and peace. She proposed a strategic partnership agreement focusing on defense and economic cooperation.
“We are committed to continuing cooperation between our institutions to concretize this agreement and to give it the appropriate form and sign it as soon as possible,” Osmani stated. She also highlighted the potential for increased UK involvement in Kosovo and vice versa.
Osmani requested UK Defense Ministry engagement in arms exports to Kosovo, aiming to bolster Kosovo’s security and support the UK’s defense industry. Discussions also covered the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue, with Osmani reiterating the need for Serbia to hold accountable those responsible for recent attacks in northern Kosovo.
Lammy affirmed the UK’s role as a key friend and partner to Kosovo, stressing the importance of progress on its Euro-Atlantic path and UK support for its Council of Europe membership. He emphasized the UK’s continued involvement in KFOR and the need for normalized relations between Kosovo and Serbia.
“We want to see a sustainable and peaceful normalization between Kosovo and Serbia,” Lammy said. He also highlighted potential collaboration in technology, innovation, and energy.
Lammy’s visit included meetings with acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti and other government officials, where discussions focused on Kosovo’s defense investments, NATO membership aspirations, and EU integration.
