Serbia has begun harmonising its visa regime with the European Union (EU) as part of its efforts to meet the requirements for full membership by the end of 2026, the Serbian Foreign Ministry has announced.
The ministry stated that aligning its visa policy with the EU is an active security measure against illegal immigration, crime, and other cross-border illegal activities.
Serbia aims to implement all necessary reforms by the end of 2026 to fulfil the conditions for EU membership, a key strategic priority for the country’s foreign policy. The ministry emphasised the need for a balanced approach between technical reforms and political strategy in the EU accession process.
The Foreign Ministry highlighted its role in strengthening bilateral relations with EU member states, building Serbia’s credibility, and addressing geopolitical issues that could affect the membership process.
In line with this alignment, a 2013 visa-free agreement between Serbia and Mongolia expired in March, requiring Mongolian citizens to now obtain a visa to enter Serbia. Visa requirements for citizens of Qatar, Kuwait, and Oman were also reintroduced in December 2024, based on Serbia’s Reform Agenda 2024-2027.
