Troops from Albania, Bulgaria, Greece, and Romania, drawn from Operational Reserves, have begun deployment to support the NATO mission in Kosovo (KFOR).
KFOR’s Media Office announced that the Multinational Operational Reserve Force (ORF) Battalion has replaced the Turkish Operational Reserve Force Battalion, as part of a rotation plan overseen by NATO’s Joint Force Command in Naples.
KFOR reported that a total of 270 troops will operate temporarily in Kosovo, joining 200 reserve forces already deployed by the Italian “Sassari” brigade.
“These reinforcements, together with KFOR troops, increase KFOR’s ability to respond to any developments in the security situation in accordance with its long-standing UN mandate, based on UN Security Council Resolution 1244 of 1999,” the statement said.
KFOR is the third security responder, after the Kosovo Police and the EU Rule of Law Mission (EULEX), with whom it works in close coordination.
