Prime Minister Edi Rama, leader of the Socialist Party, predicted a decisive defeat for the opposition in the May 11 elections, suggesting that only “magic” could save them. He claimed this defeat would surpass their 1997 loss.
Speaking to Socialist Party women, Rama called for national unity, urging citizens to support the Socialist Party (PS) on May 11, prioritizing the “national flag” over the “swamp” of opposition politics.
Rama positioned the PS as the only viable choice to continue Albania’s EU accession negotiations.
“Those who hear this appeal will not become members of the PS. Let them keep their party cards, but drain the ‘swamp’ to save the party. On May 11, Albania must send a message: ‘We, the Albanian people, regardless of party affiliation, want Albania in the united European family as soon as possible,'” Rama said.
He criticized the opposition’s stance on EU membership, their threats to dismantle the Special Anti-Corruption Structure (SPAK), and their claims of close ties with the U.S.
“The ‘swamp’ says EU entry is not a priority, but ‘magnificent Albania.’ They say they will dissolve SPAK on May 11. They speak of America and the American President as if they are neighbors. To create the idea that they actually go in and out of the White House, they have paid a consultant they call ‘the magician’ to deceive everyone,” Rama said.
He mocked the opposition’s campaign promises, predicting post-election claims of stolen victories.
“They have a group of deluded people who think they are magnificent. We will see on May 11 how many fools follow them. As always, magnificent promises until election day, then magnificent evening rallies, some magnificent cars with flags, and then magnificent cries about the magnificent theft of a magnificent victory until the next election,” Rama said.
