Albanian President Bajram Begaj met with the Chairman of the NATO Military Committee, Admiral Giuseppe Cavo Dragone, Anadolu Agency reports.
According to a statement from the Albanian Presidency, Begaj congratulated Cavo Dragone on his appointment and expressed appreciation for selecting Albania for his first regional visit. He also emphasized the importance of NATO’s mission and role.
President Begaj stated that NATO’s presence in the region and KFOR’s presence in Kosovo demonstrate NATO’s focus on the region.
“We must be together, discuss together, find solutions together because only if we are united and together will we be stronger. Peace and security are two magic words not only for our region in the times we live in. We must work hard to guarantee them,” Begaj said.
Begaj stressed the need to support Kosovo in joining international organizations and increasing cooperation within NATO and regional initiatives.
He highlighted that Albania has increased its defense budget, continues to modernize its Armed Forces, and has expanded its representation in NATO missions and operations.
“Investment in infrastructure projects, such as Corridor VIII and the new Porto Romano port, which realize strategic interconnection and increase military mobility, is very important,” Begaj added.
