Democratic Party leader Sali Berisha, speaking at a rally in Brescia, Italy, promised significant economic improvements for Albanian citizens, including those in the diaspora, if his party wins the May 11 elections.
Berisha pledged a minimum living wage of €200, a minimum salary of €500, and an average salary of €1,200. He also outlined a “compassion package” aimed at encouraging diaspora investment in Albania.
“Yesterday, we presented the ‘Magnificent Albania’ program, which I guarantee the Democratic Party will turn into reality in the first four years of its governance. This program stems from your spirit, your heart, your strength,” Berisha told the Albanian community.
He detailed plans to encourage diaspora investment by offering a five-year tax exemption on remittances invested in Albania. Berisha also promised reduced property taxes and educational support for diaspora children.
“The nation will unite as one. Political rights by law and statute to represent the diaspora proportionally in all institutions of the country,” he stated.
Berisha emphasized a “Made in Albania” initiative focused on boosting domestic production. “Production is employment. Production is well-being. Production is a high salary,” he said.
