Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama, speaking to Albanian citizens in Milan, emphasized that the country’s European Union membership prospects depend on the outcome of the May 11 elections.
Rama stated that for the first time, Albanians living abroad will be able to vote, marking a significant step in the country’s democratic process. He framed the upcoming election as a pivotal moment, a “final showdown with history,” where a single vote could determine Albania’s future relationship with the EU.
He stressed that both Albania and EU member states are aligned in their desire for Albania’s integration, presenting the May 11 vote as a crucial step towards this goal. Rama highlighted the opportunity to complete EU accession negotiations by 2027, but warned against internal political distractions that could jeopardize this progress.
The prime minister positioned the election as a choice between immediate political decisions and a long-term historical shift for Albania’s place in Europe.
