Prime Minister Edi Rama announced that Albania ranks among the top five countries globally for sustained tourism growth.
Rama, meeting with tourism operators in DurrĂ«s, emphasized the sector’s transformation of Albania’s image and called for continued commitment.
He stated that Albania now welcomes over three times the number of foreign visitors compared to a decade ago and announced plans for digitalization of tourism data and a strategy extending to 2030.
“According to the UNWTO, we are the country with the highest growth in Europe and are in the top five globally for continuous growth in this sector. We also have repeated recognition from the World Economic Forum as the Republic of Albania for the greatest improvement in the travel development index, and we have the highest annual growth of overnight stays in accommodation structures, with 56%,” Rama said.
Rama stressed the sector’s significant potential and strong foundation, but cautioned against complacency. He highlighted the importance of service quality and noted that Albania is in a fundamentally different position than before.
Rama reported substantial wage growth in the tourism industry, sometimes exceeding levels in Greece, and stated that 40 hotels now operate under major international brands. He also cited increased government and municipal investment in tourism infrastructure.
