Albania is considering increased state investment in Artificial Intelligence (AI), with officials citing its transformative potential.
During a visit to a technology company, it was suggested that the government should actively finance and participate in AI projects, similar to other countries. The aim is to leverage AI for various benefits, including streamlining processes and combating corruption.
The visit also highlighted the contribution of an Albanian AI leader in the US, whose expertise is being sought to align Albanian legislation with EU standards, particularly in areas like public procurement.
Significant growth in Albania’s technology sector was also emphasized, with reports indicating a substantial increase in the number of IT businesses and a dramatic rise in service exports within the industry.
One example cited was a local company employing hundreds within the country and regionally, serving clients in the US and Europe. A decade ago, it was said, the industry focused primarily on basic call center operations with low average wages.
