Kosovo’s Prime Minister Albin Kurti has refused for the third time to appear before the Special Prosecution, dodging a court order to testify in a corruption probe over missing state reserves.
Kurti was due to show up at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, but instead, he was in Gjilan, inaugurating a new kindergarten.
The Special Prosecution confirmed his no-show, saying he was legally bound by a Basic Court order to testify but chose not to.
Kurti, however, insists he’s not avoiding the case—just the venue.
“I never said I wouldn’t testify,” he said. “I’m ready and interested. I even suggested alternative timings. The State Prosecution is welcome to meet me in my prime minister’s office.”
The case stems from a 2023 scandal when three people, including government officials, were arrested over vanished emergency food supplies. Allegations suggest oil from Poland and wheat from Turkey—paid for with taxpayer money—never arrived.
Industry Minister Rozeta Hajdari defends the purchases, calling them legal but refuses to reveal details, claiming “state secrecy.”
