Albanian PM calls ruling ‘shameful’ as former Kosovo president denied leave to attend father’s funeral
Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama has condemned the Kosovo Specialist Chambers for refusing to allow former Kosovo President Hashim Thaçi to attend his father’s funeral.
Rama took to social media, calling the decision “a new low” and accusing the tribunal of turning international justice into a “charade.”
Thaçi, who has been detained in The Hague since 2020 on war crimes charges, was granted a brief visit to see his father in hospital days before his death. However, his request to attend the funeral was denied.
Kosovo’s war veterans and political figures have also criticized the ruling, calling it inhumane and unjust. The tribunal, set up to investigate alleged crimes by the Kosovo Liberation Army, has not commented on the backlash.
