Albania’s upcoming parliamentary elections will be decisive for the country’s EU membership hopes, warns OSCE ambassador Michel Tarran.
Speaking to RTSH, he stressed that the new parliament will play a key role in continuing EU negotiations, making a clear public mandate essential.
“These elections matter because the next government will lead Albania for four years and oversee EU talks,” Tarran said. “Legitimacy is crucial.”
SPAK CRACKS DOWN ON ELECTION CRIMES
For the first time ever, Albania’s Special Anti-Corruption Structure (SPAK) is investigating election crimes. Tarran called this a necessary and positive step to strengthen the country’s democracy.
“SPAK, the Central Election Commission, and the General Prosecutor’s Office must be supported in this mission,” he said, adding that election fraud is a global issue, not just an Albanian problem.
Authorities have signed a new agreement to speed up investigations and ensure election integrity.
