North Macedonia’s Prosecutor’s Office has announced that 14 individuals are facing criminal charges over the Ko?ani nightclub fire, which killed 59 people and injured 155. The suspects are being investigated for serious crimes against public safety, carrying a minimum sentence of three years and a maximum of 20 years in prison.
Prosecutor Ljup?o Kocevski confirmed that authorities are also probing bribery and illegal procurement of pyrotechnics. The nightclub lacked a fire hydrant system, adequate firefighting measures, and a legal operating license, according to initial findings.
The investigation team has expanded to nine prosecutors, intensifying efforts to gather evidence and determine responsibility. North Macedonia has declared seven days of mourning, and several of the injured, including nine patients sent to Türkiye, are receiving treatment abroad.
