The European Parliament has chosen Albania as the base for its new contact office for the Western Balkans, strengthening ties between the EU and the region.
The office in Tirana will serve as a key communication hub between the European Parliament, national parliaments, civil society, and local partners. It will promote the EU legislature’s positions, particularly on enlargement, and support democracy and institutional reforms in the region.
“This office underscores the European Parliament’s strong commitment to the Western Balkans’ EU path, fostering stability, democracy, and closer ties between the EU and its neighbors,” the institution said.
The Parliament currently operates offices in New York, Jakarta, and Addis Ababa. The decision to open additional outposts in Albania and Moldova follows an earlier move to establish offices in Ukraine and Panama.
The expansion comes amid heightened geopolitical tensions and a renewed push for EU enlargement, signaling Brussels’ deepening engagement with candidate countries.
