Albania’s Prime Minister Edi Rama has his sights set on a historic goal—securing Albania’s place as a full EU member by 2030. And he’s making it clear: nothing will knock him off course.
Rama regularly faces the public in his “Sy me Sy” Q&A sessions, where critics throw accusations and even personal insults his way. But despite the attacks, he stays firm, believing his MISSION is bigger than politics. He says he’s fighting “with flesh and blood” to make the decades-old dream of “Albania like the rest of Europe” a reality.
Justice Reforms Spark Political Warfare
But as Albania inches closer to the EU, its political scene is on fire. The judiciary overhaul—once hailed as a game-changer—has turned into a battleground. Rama backs the Special Prosecution Office (SPAK), even though it has arrested Socialist officials, including the Mayor of Tirana. But the opposition? Furious. Former PM Sali Berisha’s Democratic Party vows to shut it down if they take power, calling it a “Socialist weapon” and a “criminal organization.”
Yet here’s the twist—SPAK was unanimously voted into law by both sides in Parliament! Now, the same politicians who backed it are tearing it apart. The US and EU, who have pumped millions into the reform, aren’t amused.
All Eyes on May 11
The May 11 elections could decide everything—who governs next and whether Albania stays on track for EU membership. Rama warns against toxic politics and smear campaigns, calling for civility after 33 years of political shouting matches.
But in a climate where even family members are dragged into the mud, will Albanian politics ever clean up its act? One thing is certain—Rama is all in, and the stakes have never been higher.
