Italy’s Senate has given a resounding thumbs-up to a long-awaited pension deal with Albania – and not a single vote was against it.
The agreement, passed 129 to 0, means thousands of workers who have spent years working in both countries can finally rest easy knowing their pension rights are safe. No more lost work years, no more uncertainty – just fair treatment for around 550,000 Albanians and 4,000 Italians who have built their lives across borders.
It took 15 years of negotiations, but the deal – signed in Rome by Albania’s Igli Hasani and Italy’s Antonio Tajani – will now guarantee access to retirement, disability, family pensions, unemployment benefits, and maternity pay for those who qualify.
Albania has already secured similar deals with Germany, Austria, Canada, and Switzerland, with Montenegro and Bulgaria next in line. Talks with France and Greece are also moving forward, while Spain, Slovenia, and Denmark have shown interest in joining.
For thousands of hard-working people, this deal is more than just paperwork – it is peace of mind for their future.
