Former Prime Minister and Democratic Party leader Sali Berisha launched the “Alliance for a Grand Albania” on Monday, calling it the strongest electoral coalition in three decades.
Berisha claimed the alliance represents the “absolute majority” of Albanians and includes top political figures, experts, and patriots. “This is a historic day for the fight for freedom and dignity,” he declared.
With Albania set for local elections on May 11, Berisha insisted his coalition was transparent and “the most powerful ever.” He pointed to support from the Albanian diaspora, calling 2025 “the year of the diaspora” and praising emigrants’ role in shaping the country’s future.
“Never before has there been such a coalition—one that embraces all communities and social groups,” he said, vowing to end extreme poverty and ensure Albanians can build their dreams at home.
The opposition’s campaign abroad, he claimed, had sparked unseen levels of enthusiasm among voters since the 1990s. “Their love for Albania remains unshaken,” Berisha said.
As election season heats up, the new coalition aims to challenge Prime Minister Edi Rama’s Socialist-led government in a crucial political showdown.
