Albania’s road to the 2026 World Cup started on the wrong foot last night as they fell 2-0 to England at Wembley.
It was a night of missed chances and frustration for the Red and Blacks, who struggled to break down a strong English side.
The Three Lions took control early, with 18-year-old wonderkid Lewis-Skelly opening the scoring in the 20th minute with a cool finish. Albania held firm for most of the first half, and even came close to an equaliser when Burn’s deflection nearly turned into an own goal – only for the ball to crash off the crossbar in the 27th minute.
England went into the break 1-0 up, but Albania weren’t giving up. In the second half, coach Silvinho brought on Armando Broja in the 63rd minute – and the Chelsea striker made an instant impact.
Just minutes later, Broja caused real danger in the English box. His best moment came in the 69th minute when he teed up Jasir Asani, but the winger couldn’t connect properly and the chance went begging.
England sealed the win in the 77th minute when captain Harry Kane finished off a quick move, leaving Albania with no way back.
Next up, Albania face Andorra on March 24 at the “Arena Kombëtare” in Tirana. Kick-off is at 20:45, and the team will be hoping to bounce back in front of their home fans.
