Democratic Party leader Sali Berisha has called for all opposition forces to unite against Prime Minister Edi Rama, vowing to build the broadest political front Albania has seen in 32 years.
Speaking at his party’s National Council meeting, Berisha urged businesses, farmers, young people, and pensioners to join forces, saying it was time to “save the country” from what he described as government corruption and control.
He also pledged to ban the Soros Foundation in Albania, calling it a “national threat” that had helped silence opposition voices.
Berisha welcomed backing from Republican National Committee chair Cris LaCivita, who endorsed Berisha as Albania’s key opposition leader. “This is a positive step for Albania,” he said, adding that his stance against Soros-backed politics had “won in the US and will win here too.”
On Tirana Mayor Erion Veliaj, Berisha claimed former minister Arben Ahmetaj had predicted his arrest weeks ago, suggesting it was a move orchestrated by Rama.
