Donald Trump’s former campaign boss, Chris LaCivita, is taking charge of Albania’s opposition election campaign ahead of the May 11 vote.
LaCivita was introduced on Monday by Democratic Party leader Sali Berisha, who framed the move as a game-changer. “PD and the opposition stood firm against extreme pressure and blackmail. Our program is outstanding—it will save Albania,” Berisha said, stressing his party’s ties to the U.S. Republicans.
LaCivita wasted no time in going on the attack, branding Prime Minister Edi Rama a “puppet of George Soros” and insisting that “you can’t be Soros’s pawn and America’s friend at the same time.” He claimed Soros’s influence is waning and called Berisha “a true and longtime friend of the U.S.”
“We are here today because we want to elect a prime minister who will work successfully with President Trump and the U.S.,” LaCivita declared.
Drawing comparisons between Trump’s rise and Albania’s political scene, he argued that Berisha, like Trump, has been “unfairly persecuted” by a government that “doesn’t respect democracy.” He pointed to opposition leaders being jailed, placed under house arrest, and “intimidated into silence.”
“We are here to put an end to this,” he vowed.
